DRESS CODE
A dress code ensures that a teacher will be able to see a dancer’s alignment and positioning. The teacher needs to be able to see a dancer's mistakes. A dress code will also teach students discipline, helping with overall focus and energy. By "dressing the part," dancers feel like dancers. Dress codes can also create unity among the dancers instead of causing a few dancers to stand out, much like a school uniform policy. Dress codes go a long way in minimizing distractions, and help give classes a unified look.
◆ All students should attend each lesson and be properly dressed. For all ballet, tumbling and pointe classes hair must be hair must be neatly pulled away from the face and secured back in a bun. For all other classes hair must be neatly pulled away from the face and secured back in a low bun/ponytail unless otherwise permitted by the instructor. Any student who is not dressed properly may not be permitted to dance with the class.
◆ No jewelry should be worn at anytime. This includes rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Small stud earrings are acceptable. Jewelry is an accident waiting to happen. Please advise your child to leave jewelry at home as they will be asked to remove it before class.

PLACEMENT EVALUATION
For some new students it may be necessary to take the first week of classes in a “trial” level in order for the instructor(s) to assess the proper class level.
The Artistic Staff has the final word on evaluating levels and casting for rehearsals and performances. Please be respectful of their professional decisions.
ATTENDANCE/ILLNESS/INJURY
Students/Parents must check in with the office staff before the start of each lesson. Attendance is imperative for consistent progress.
If a student is going to be absent from class due to unforeseen circumstances, call the studio and leave a message before class time. If students know in advance that they will be absent from class, please let the Director know before the day of the class.
If students are too ill to participate in class, they should remain at home and rest. If they are injured, they should come to class and observe. Many students find that they learn from observing class! This will also keep them informed of the class’ progress.
Missed classes may be made up within the same month as absence up to three times a year.
In the event of missing a private lesson, the studio must be informed at least 24 hours in advance to try and fill that time slot. If the studio is not informed within the proper time you will still be charged for that time slot.
DROP OFF & PICK UP

We ask that all students be accompanied by an adult into the studio to be dropped of and picked up.
Please understand this is for the safety of all of our students and will aid in keeping parents/guardians updated on any studio news and information.

There are no refunds or credits for cancelled classes. Please call the studio to set up the make up class to assure a spot in the class for that week.
BULLETIN BOARD, WHITE BOARD, EMAIL and BAND APP
Parents and students should regularly check the bulletin and white boards in the office area for important news and information. Emails and the Band App. also are updated frequently with important news and information.
STUDENT/INSTRUCTOR INTERACTION
Please be advised that the study of dance involves physical contact. Instructors will often need to make hands-on contact to adjust students’ alignment and to demonstrate proper motion.
Students should keep the faculty informed of any recent illness, injury, or other condition that may interfere with their classwork.
An instructor must check all new ballet and pointe shoes to ensure proper fit before elastics and/or ribbons are sewn.
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE
Behavior. We expect our students to behave properly at all times, both while in class and on our premises. They must be disciplined, responsible, mature and respectful to their instructors and peers. Should a student act in a manner deemed inappropriate in any way, the teacher has the right to immediately dismiss them from the class. This includes offensive attitudes, poor relations with other students, bad work habits or any unacceptable behavior.
Ongoing behavioral issues will be reported to the parents and handled on a case-by- case basis. Students will only be allowed back into class at the discretion of the instructor and management.
Students may not leave class without permission from the instructor.
Cell phones must be turned off or put in silent mode during class. Cell phones are not permitted in the dance room. Students are not permitted to leave class to answer their phones. If a parent needs to contact their child in case of emergency, please call the studio (845)204-9220.
Before class. No students are allowed in the studio until the class begins. They must wait quietly in the lobby until the teacher has invited them in.
Supervision. All children, both students and their siblings, must be supervised in the lobby at all times. It is not a place for playing or running as your child may hurt themselves. The lobby can be very crowded at times so you need to be respectful of that as well. It is a place for sitting, stretching, reading, homework, etc.
For children under 6 years of age, parents are encouraged stay in the lobby at all times in case of emergency. If you must leave for any reason, please notify the person working at the front desk.
Observation. No friends or family members are allowed in the dance studio to observe class unless authorized by the instructor. Only registered students are allowed to be inside. There are viewing televisions in the lobby that our office staff will turn on the last 10-15 min of class with the approval of the instructor.
